The Ice Co. is a family-run business operating from the beautiful seaside village of Sedgefield, in the heart of the Garden Route.
We manufacture and distribute ice… but not just any ice, the coolest, purest ice in town!
What makes us even cooler is our delivery service; free delivery on all bulk orders in the Wilderness, Sedgefield and Knysna area.

The fresh water is filtered and purified to help create the most crystal clear ice cubes. Our products are micro-biologically tested which in other words means it’s lovely and pure.

Our ice and the manufacturing process
At the factory in Sedgefield is where the magic happens. This is where the coolest, purest ice is made.
Here we manufacture cubes – perfect for any occasion or to keep anything cool, as well as gourmet ice – a sleek, rounded shape that adds class and elegance to any drink. Especially great for cocktails and other bougie drinks!
The fully automated manufacturing process means each individual ice cube goes through the production process with no human contact. Fresh water is filtered and purified to help create the most crystal-clear ice cubes.
Here’s how it works:
The icemaker has a water pump, which draws water from a collection sump and pours it over the chilled ice tray. As the water flows over the tray, it gradually freezes, building up ice cubes in the well of the tray. When you freeze water layer by layer this way, it forms clear ice. After a set amount of time, the icemaker triggers a solenoid valve connected to the heat-exchanging coils. Switching this valve changes the path of the refrigerant. The compressor stops forcing the heated gas from the compressor into the narrow condenser; instead, it forces the gas into a wide bypass tube. The hot gas is cycled back to the evaporator without condensing. When you force this hot gas through the evaporator pipes, the pipes and the ice tray heat up rapidly, which loosens the ice cubes. The individual cube cavities are slanted so the loosened ice will slide out on their own, into a collection bin below. Once out, the coolest ice in town is bagged and shipped (by truck, not ship!) to our cool clients.

We don’t just manufacture and supply ice; we also specialise in the hire of refrigerated trailers!
These bad boys can be used at any event to keep just about anything cool, for as long as you need it.
The trailers are ready to go, on short term or long term hire.
Towable behind the majority of vehicles on South African roads.
We can also pack the trailers with ice and refill as you run out; say at a sports day, concert or other outdoor event.
It’s a pretty cool concept, we think!

Ice facts you didn’t know you needed!
Ice floats because it is less dense than water. Density is a foundational concept in physics, which explains why boats float, rocks sink, and balloons fly away when you let them go! When water freezes into ice, it takes up more volume than when it does as a liquid.
The clarity of ice cubes is determined by the temperature of the water used to make them. Warmer water contains more impurities, which are released when the water is cooled and frozen. Ice cubes made from distilled or boiled water are usually clearer than those made from tap water.

Wife Belinda is the Admin Boss (also known as the Big Boss) and she’s in charge of all things admin… obviously.
Cool Kid Michael works more behind the scenes, but he is great at all things tech.
Armant takes care of the clients and ensures deliveries are done on time and as per their order requests.
Lorenzo packs the ice, ensures the machines are always operational and keeps our factory spotless and clean.
